I want the wood paneling to age naturally

Woodsafe® fire protection is an invisible impregnation; it doesn’t create a coating on the surface, and it’s the plank itself that provides fire protection—unlike fire-retardant paint, which forms a coating on the surface of the wood panel.

Can I treat Woodsafe® fire-retardant wood with potassium silicate or iron sulfate?
It’s possible, but we don’t recommend it—since the result usually isn’t what you expect.
Silicon and iron vitriol are often used to create a gray patina or provide water repellency. However, on Woodsafe® fire-retardant-treated wood, these treatments have limited or no effect. Furthermore, many silicon-based products lack verified documentation regarding moisture protection and long-term durability, which is why we advise against using them on Woodsafe® fire-retardant wood.
Instead, you can rest assured that nature will do the work. Over time, the wood panel will develop a beautiful, silver-gray patina all on its own—without any additional treatment. If the panel is installed next to untreated wood, the difference in aging will be evident, which is entirely natural.
