  • Fire-retardant wood is a specialized technical field where knowledge is the foundation for sound decision-making. Woodsafe’s training programs provide an in-depth understanding of fire-retardant-treated wood, applicable regulations, and verified performance. By combining practical experience, research, and testing, we create a more reliable basis for decision-making regarding design, specifications, and long-term application.
  • The training courses cover fire class, use class, EN 16755, CE marking, and verified durability. Through practical examples and real-world projects, we shed light on common misconceptions regarding testing methods, climate impact, and long-term fire performance—with a focus on documentation and technical decisions that stand up to scrutiny.
  • A central part of the training is explaining how fire-retardant treatment interacts with the wood’s natural fire behavior. We demonstrate why controlled charring is an intended protective function, how the char layer reduces heat transfer and limits the formation of combustible pyrolysis gases, and why fire-retardant wood should be assessed based on verified flame spread (Flame Spread) and documented fire performance—not based on whether or not the wood chars.
     
  • The training program includes a guided tour of the production facilities. Here, you’ll follow the entire manufacturing process—from raw materials to the finished product—and see how quality assurance, traceability, and verification are integrated into every step. This provides a practical understanding of how documented fire performance is established and ensured.

  • The training also includes a visit to Woodsafe Research & Development and our Swedac-accredited laboratories. Here, you’ll observe how testing, verification, and quality assurance are conducted in accordance with standards such as EN 13823, ISO 5660-1, and EN 16755. Through hands-on demonstrations, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of traceability, regulatory requirements, and the documentation needed to ensure verified performance and decisions that stand up to technical review.
